Members Day – Farm Visit

Among the  advantages of being  a Member, whether Full or Associate, is the invitation to a Farm Visit.

THE NEXT LINCOLN RED FARM VISIT IS ON

SUNDAY 18th JULY 2010

The 2010 Farm Visit is, very kindly, being jointly hosted by Riseholme Park Farms, University of Lincoln, LN2 2GH and Geoff & Jenny Bolton, The Plantation, Horncastle Road, Wragby, Lincoln.

The Dean of Riseholme College, Val Braybrooks, has offered for us to see the many different aspects of agriculture that Riseholme are involved in at what should be a fascinating and most enjoyable Family Gathering.  On view will be: the pedigree herd of 60 Lincoln Reds established in 2004 with 20 animals purchased from the Anwick Herd

10:00am :     All assemble in the Conference Centre at the College for tea/coffee

10:30am :     Welcome – Val Braybrooks

11:00ish :      Walk to view Riseholmes’ Lincoln Reds and their Sheep – please note we will be walking.  Anyone who may have difficulties should let Jayne know in order that appropriate arrangements can be made with the College – their golf carts which require pre-booking.

12:30ish :     Picnic Lunch on lawns between The Old Hall and the Lake

Riseholme have advised that Parents are responsible for their own Children

Definitely – No swimming in the lake!

01:00 to 02:00pm :          Campus Tours available.  Those wishing to see more Lincoln Reds should make their way to :

02:00pm :                         Geoff (our President Elect) & Jenny Bolton’s, who have very kindly agreed to let us view their Wragby Herd.  The Wragby Herd was formed in 1991 with the purchase of females from the Beverley & Kingthorpe Herds and a bull from the Walmer Herd.  The Herd currently comprises 32 Lincoln Reds and their results at the Shows are testimony to the quality of cattle being bred.  Interesting pasture management too.

03:00pm:                          Afternoon Tea courtesy of the Boltons.

Please bring your own picnic lunches and cool drinks.  Robin assures us he’ll have Dennetts ice-creams!

Please remember the day is open to members and their families. Catering numbers are required for afternoon tea, so please contact Jayne (Tel: 01522 511395 or  email via the contact page), if you’re planning to join us on 18th July.
