The highest priced Maiden Heifer from the Ed Middleton’s Holegate Herd in Lincolnshire; Holegate May B152 sold for 2,800 Gns to Tom Nicholls’ Ladycrofts Herd in Buckinghamshire. Sired by Brackenhurst Warrior out of Holegate May Y70. Also selling to the Ladycrofts Herd for 2,500 Gns was Holegate Gloria B146, another Brackenhurst Warrior daughter out of Holegate Gloria Y51.
The Female Champion, 2022 born Maiden Heifer, Mrs S Buchan’s Auchmacoy Bianca B45 sold to new Member, Lisa Kemp’s Kemp Herd in Nottinghamshire, for £2,800. Sired by Brackenhurst Wiseguy out of Auchmacoy Bianca P116.
The Reserve Champion Female, 2022 born Maiden Heifer, from Jamie Quinn & Sue Oliver’s Axholme Herd in North Lincolnshire, Axholme Heroine B82 sold for 2,000 Gns to Tim Hunter’s Lindsey Herd in Lincolnshire. Sired by Axholme X12 David Brown out of Legbourne Heroine S141.

Brackenhurst Admiral was First in his Class, Senior Champion, Overall Breed Champion and Overall Interbreed Champion; he went on to sell for 7,000 Guineas at the Lincoln Red Cattle Society’s Premier Pedigree Spring Show and Sale and Multi-Breed Show and Sale on Saturday 25th March 2023 at Melton Mowbray Market; which was the top price paid across the board in the Multi-Breed Sale.
Brackenhurst Admiral Sired by Auchmacoy Xeno out of Brackenhurst Ann W458 bred by Nottingham Trent University, Nottinghamshire, sold to Natasha and Richard Mann’s Yarn Hill Herd, Suffolk. His stable mate; Brackenhurst Avatar was First in his Class, also a son of Auchmacoy Xeno out of Brackenhurst Effie T400 sold to Mr White’s Pelham Holt Herd, Lincolnshire, for 5,200 Guineas.

He noted there had been a tremendous amount of interest generated around the Show Ring and this had carried on into the Sale Arena where there was standing room only as the Sale began and throughout the Pedigree Sale. Ian, thanked our Lincoln Red Vendors, Members and all those who invested in Lincoln Reds today, for their support. Lincoln Red Bull Trade at the Lincoln Red Premier Pedigree Spring and Multibreeds Show & Sale on Saturday 26th March 2022 at Melton Mowbray Market saw the highest priced Bull; out of all the Breeds; from Michael Read’s famous Hemingby Herd, in Lincolnshire; Hemingby Zander sold for 5,800 Gns to David Wright’s Starlite Herd in Derbyshire. Hemingby Zander was Reserve Senior and Reserve Supreme Champion Lincoln Red Bull. He is Sired by Hemingby Illustrious out of Hemingby Treasure P732.

A record-breaking price of 5,200 Guineas was paid for an in-calf heifer at the Lincoln Red Cattle Society Annual Autumn Show and Sale at Carlisle on Friday 1st October. Reserve Champion Female bred by Nottingham Trent University; Brackenhurst Grace Y536, a daughter of Beverley Raider out of Brackenhurst Grace S388; in calf to Premier Young Gun, who is one of the first sons of Foulness Ultra; sold to the University of Lincoln’s Riseholme Herd.

Champion Calf from Rob Mawer’s Premier Herd, Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire; December 2020 born Bull; Premier Zorro sired by Highbarn Storm; who was Supreme Champion at the Society’s 2015 Premier Pedigree Spring Show & Sale; out of Auchmacoy Dot X458, sold for 2,400 Guineas to new Member Philip Mellor’s Dodsworth Herd, York, Yorkshire.
Also selling to Philip Mellor’s Dodsworth Herd were Mrs S Buchan’s 2021 born heifer calves; both daughters of Brackenhurst Warrior; Auchmacoy Norah A003 out of Auchmacoy Norah P105 selling for 2,200 Guineas and Auchmacoy Ada A002 out of Auchmacoy Ada V381 selling for 1,700 Guineas.
Both Judge John Elliot and Auctioneer Scott Donaldson commented on the good quality cattle presented. It was most definitely “ladies’ day” for Lincoln Reds at Carlisle. 5,200 Guineas was the second highest price paid for all Breeds. Whilst the number of cattle forward was lower than previous years there was 100% clearance on Lincoln Red females.
