Winceby Herd Dispersal Sale – Sale Results

Following Monday 5th October's Complete Dispersal Sale of the Winceby Herd of Lincoln Red Cattle at Louth Livestock Market, here are the sale results.

The Winceby in-calf cows, including three cows with calves at foot, averaged 2,260 guineas.

🏆 Top price cow: 3,000 guineas for an in-calf cow, with her heifer calf subsequently selling for 1,450 guineas – the highest-priced heifer calf.

Other averages included:

🐄 In-calf heifers – 2,350 guineas
🐄 Maiden heifers – 2,610 guineas
🐂 Bull calves – 1,085 guineas
🐄 Heifer calves – 1,300 guineas

Rand David was Judge Dean Hullah's Junior and Overall Champion. He went on to be Reserve Interbreed Champion. This March born Bull sired by Holegate Zante out of Sudbrooke Yardley Y085, bred by Rand Farm Park, Lincoln, Lincolnshire, sold for 3,500 Gns to Chris Page & Melissa Bollon's Foulness Herd, Brough, East Yorkshire.

Hobart Dylan was Senior Champion and Overall Reserve Champion, sired by Hemingby Andrew out of Hobart Heroine A945, bred by A W J & E L Bambridge, Blickling, Norfolk, was top priced Lincoln Red on the day selling for 4,700 Gns to Stephen & Tina Skipworth's Adbury Park Herd in Hampshire.

Reserve Junior Bull, was Othorpe Drake sired by Donington Zorro out of Othorpe Mattie X184, bred by Will & Ellie Jackson, Market Harborough, Leicestershire, sold for 4,000 Gns to Jeanette Vincent's Stonebridge Herd, Canterbury, Kent.

Reserve Senior Bull, from the well known Beverley Herd of R I Clough & Son, Spilsby, Lincolnshire, Beverley Classic sired by Beverley Wingman out of Beverley Annie Z30 sold for 3,500 Gns to Martha Hayes's Thorns Herd, Market Rasen, Lincolnshire.

February born Coneygarth Del Boy bred by Martin & Derrick Cooper, Doncaster, South Yorkshire, sired by Donington Yuri out of Coneygarth Nancy X217, sold for 4,200 Gns to Nick Barton's Highbarn Herd, Macclesfield, Cheshire.

Champion Female was Walmer Lobelia D570, bred by Miss J M Needler owned & exhibited by Mr R J & Mrs G Goodwin, Market Bosworth, Leicestershire, sired by Beverley Zion ET out of Walmer Lobelia X1229.

Reserve Female Champion was Holyoak Gloria D39 bred by Mr R J & Mrs G Goodwin, sired by Beverley Xtrovert out of Othorpe Gloria A256 sold for 2,600 Gns to Ollie Brayne's Long Croft Herd, Hope Valley, Derbyshire.

Maiden Heifers from Ed Middleton's Holegate Herd, Spilsby, Lincolnshire, all sold to a selection of Herds with the top priced Heifer being Holegate Diana D246 selling for 2,600 Gns to Hayley & Tom Williamson's Williamson Herd, Lincolnshire; Holegate May D249 selling for 2,100 Gns to Ollie Brayne's Long Croft Herd; Holegate May D269 selling for 2,000 Gns to a new Member in Norfolk and Holegate Diana D275 selling for 1,850 Gns to Phillippa & Andrew Pritchard's Owslebury Herd, Hampshire.

St Fort Hill Duke P4351, Sired by Ballyvaddy Warlord out of Rumford Tweedle T71 sold to James Hamilton's Hamilton Organic Ltd Herd, Dunbar. Going to the same Herd was St. Fort Dasher XP81413, Sired by St. Fort Yarmouth out of St. Fort Mary X786. St. Fort Dundee XP81427, Sired by St. Fort Yarmouth out of St. Fort Blossom Y899 sold to Martha Hayes's Thorns Herd in Lincolnshire.

It is with great regret that we have to advise of the dispersal of the famous Donington Herd of Pedigree Lincoln Reds on behalf of Graham and Bryan Parkinson.
The Sale is at Louth Livestock Market with online bidding via Marteye. Viewing from rom 8:00am and the Sale will begin at Noon.
The Donington Herd was established 62 years ago in 1963 by the Parkinson Family with the purchase of 10 Lincoln Red Heifers from J R Needham & Sons. The families of these being: Jessie; Jane; Gloria; Diana; Molly; Grace; Gay; Ann and May. Donington Herd Cows have been successfully out-wintered and calved outside in April/May since 1969 with stock being used to set up numerous prestigious Herds across the Country.
The first Bull sold at Lincoln Red Cattle Society Sales was Donington Herdsman in the 1970’s, who sold to J Mountain of Temple Bruer for 100Gns and the last one sold was Donington Watchman (Dam Donington Molly P17 & Sire Foulness Leroy) who sold for 9,000Gns to the Cowford Herd in Perthshire at the 2019 Premier Pedigree Spring Show & Sale.
In the early 70’s the introduction of influential Sire Acthorpe Nelson (who was unbeaten in the summer show ring) was a great boost to the Herd. His influence led to many Championships for the Donington Herd, including 3 Royal Smithfields; 2 Perth Bull Sales; 2 LRCS Bull Sales and 3 Junior Championships. In 1978 Donington Zechariah (Dam Donington Jessie 19th & Sire Acthorpe Nelson) came first at the Palermo International Show & Sale in Argentina; selling for ten million six hundred thousand pesetas (10,600Gns).
It hasn’t been just all about the Donington Bulls! Over the years Donington Females have been in high demand and Donington bloodlines can be found in many Lincoln Red Herds up and down the Country and in many of the show winning Lincoln Reds! In 2018, at the Royal Welsh Show, Donington Jessie V12 (Dam Donington Jessie S3 & Sire Foulness Leroy) owned and shown by Ed Middleton, was Supreme Interbreed Beef Champion!
Recently the emphasis has been more about selling breeding stock and Donington animals have been used to set up several Herds across the UK both Pedigree and Commercial Herds. Graham has commented “One of my greatest pleasures has been to see Donington Cattle succeed in these Herds!”

Limestone Dunstan; Hemingby Viking; Bevan Gallant; Donington Jupiter; Market Stainton Kinsman; Beverley Kudos; Brandon Robber; Foulness Leroy; Highbarn Thunderbolt & Yarn Hill Wilbur.
Health Status: The Donington Herd is in the Biobest High Health Scheme: Accredited Free of BVD; Johnes Risk Level 1 and clear of Neospora. Both Bulls and all in-calf Females have been Bluetongue Vaccinated.
Whole Herd pre-movement TB tested.
This full Herd dispersal sale will include approximately:
• 45 in-calf cows and calves;
• 15 in-calf heifers;
• 15 bulling heifers;
• 2 Lincoln Red stock bulls; Donington Buccaneer and Holegate Bandit who was Senior and Supreme Champion Bull at the Lincoln Red Cattle Society’s Annual Premier Pedigree Spring Show and Sale in March 2024; acquired for 10,000 Gns.

We are delighted to see Trainview Cassius off to such a renowned Herd of Lincoln Reds with the Mylius Family at St Fort. We have admired the breed for many years but it was after seeing a tremendous line up of Lincoln Red bulls at Stirling a few years ago that made us make the jump into actually owning some. In 2021 we purchased St Fort Frosty Y989 at Stirling for the top price of 2200 gns to run alongside our pedigree herds of Beef Shorthorn and Irish Moiled. We continue to be impressed by the Lincolns as fleshy, no fuss cattle. Trainview Cassius has been just that. He is just the type of animal we are aiming to breed and we look forward to continuing our journey to building up our small Herd.

It has certainly been a sale to remember, setting a Scottish record is not something that comes around often and it is a great endorsement of the Breed.  We wish the Mylius Family all the very best with Cassius and we look forward to seeing his progeny at St Fort.
