5,200 GNS FEMALE RECORD FOR LINCOLN REDS AT CARLISLE
A record-breaking price of 5,200 Guineas was paid for an in-calf heifer at the Lincoln Red Cattle Society Annual Autumn Show and Sale at Carlisle on Friday 1st October. Reserve Champion Female bred by Nottingham Trent University; Brackenhurst Grace Y536, a daughter of Beverley Raider out of Brackenhurst Grace S388; in calf to Premier Young Gun, who is one of the first sons of Foulness Ultra; sold to the University of Lincoln’s Riseholme Herd.
Champion Female bred by Nottingham Trent University; Brackenhurst Diana Y532, daughter of Beverley Raider out of Brackenhurst Diana S382; in calf to Premier Young Gun; sold for 3,500 Guineas to the University of Lincoln’s Riseholme Herd,
In Calf heifer, Auchmacoy Nancy Y494, Sired by Brackenhurst Whistler out of Auchmacoy Nancy V365; in calf to Brackenhurst Wiseguy; bred by Mrs S Buchan, Ellon, Aberdeenshire; sold for 3,500 Guineas to Johnathan & Elaine Bradley’s Holthead Herd, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.
Mrs Buchan’s February 2020 born maiden heifer, Auchmacoy Bianca Z523, Sired by Brackenhurst Warrior out of Auchmacoy Bianca P115; sold for 2,500 Guineas to Chris & Melissa Page’s Foulness Herd, Brough, East Yorkshire.
Champion Calf from Rob Mawer’s Premier Herd, Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire; December 2020 born Bull; Premier Zorro sired by Highbarn Storm; who was Supreme Champion at the Society’s 2015 Premier Pedigree Spring Show & Sale; out of Auchmacoy Dot X458, sold for 2,400 Guineas to new Member Philip Mellor’s Dodsworth Herd, York, Yorkshire.
Also selling to Philip Mellor’s Dodsworth Herd were Mrs S Buchan’s 2021 born heifer calves; both daughters of Brackenhurst Warrior; Auchmacoy Norah A003 out of Auchmacoy Norah P105 selling for 2,200 Guineas and Auchmacoy Ada A002 out of Auchmacoy Ada V381 selling for 1,700 Guineas.
Both Judge John Elliot and Auctioneer Scott Donaldson commented on the good quality cattle presented. It was most definitely “ladies’ day” for Lincoln Reds at Carlisle. 5,200 Guineas was the second highest price paid for all Breeds. Whilst the number of cattle forward was lower than previous years there was 100% clearance on Lincoln Red females.
